Retina and Uveitis Unit

Our Retina department provides complete care for all retina related diseases. The department is fully occupied with the latest digitalized high resolution ocular imagining systems. And recently we adopted the OCT-A which captures the very fine blood vessels in the retina without the need of injecting a dye.

The department is headed by consultants with wide experience locally and internationally and licensed from UK and USA.

Diabetic retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is one of the diabetes complications, in which a damage of the fine blood vessels of the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye occurs. At first, diabetic retinopathy may cause no symptoms or only mild vision issues. Unfortunately, it can cause blindness if not treated at the right time.

How it can be treated:

· Laser Treatment:

Laser treatment generally targets leaking blood vessels or damaged tissue in the retina. The treatment takes few minutes only and it’s painless and very effective.

· Anti-“VEGF” Injections

It’s a special kind of injections that stops or slows-down the leakage from the retinal blood vessels and it does improve the vision dramatically.

· Surgical intervention

In the late stages of untreated conditions the surgeon interferes to remove the new tissues and to stop the hemorrhage.

We proudly announce the availability of the latest, fastest and safest retinal laser at our centers (multi-spot pattern laser) which minimizes the treatment time down to 2-3 minutes only, compared to the conventional lasers where it takes about 20-30 minutes, plus the advantage of reducing the needed sessions from 3 sessions by the conventional lasers to only one session by this fast and safe high-tech laser.

The procedure is 100% painless and takes few minutes only for both eyes.
